TransScribe Zine

Welcome authors and writers to TransScribe: The Arts Zine, by Queer people, for Queer people. We are based out of the Twin Cities, MN, and look forward to reading your submissions! Please read the guidelines for your submission type below!

First Submission Deadline: August 21st!

All submissions must contain the following within the submission email (you will not be accepted otherwise.):

  • Email subject line should contain [ART] or [WRITING]

  • Your name (and whether or not you would like to be published anonymously)

  • Your pronouns (please list!)

  • Any personal handles or sites for people to find more of your creations (if you would like them included)

  • Word count/canvas size

For Everyone:

1. Integrity is key. Please only share your own original pieces.2. Please do not submit something that you wouldn't be comfortable sharing with your friends. There are real people (albeit open-minded!!) running this zine!3. Your first name will be included with the work unless anonymity is requested. Your name will be required for submission.4. Do not name drop other people, or use our publication to vague about specific individuals. If you are found to be doing so, you may be asked not to submit again. We are a localized zine and will not enable targeted behaviors.5. Be mindful of your fellow writers and artists. We aim at keeping this publication to 60 pages max, and would like to publish as many works as possible in each installment.

For Authors:

1. All kinds of writing are accepted: chapters of your works, poetry, song lyrics, letters, op-eds, philosophical statements, political commentary, essays- if you can write it, we can publish it.2. Works that are found to be harmful will not be included, and you may be asked not to submit again. Statement pieces are allowed, but we will not allow the spread of outright hateful and/or ignorant pieces. No queerphobia, racism, fascism, (trans)misogyny or (trans)misandry will be permitted.3. Please limit submissions to 1500 words. If you are submitting a chapter or longer piece, please inform us with your submission.4. Works of an explicit nature must remain sex- and kink-positive.5. Works submitted with no formatting direction will be reformatted to fit within the zine. If your formatting is important, please include that note and stay in touch with our team so we can correctly produce your work.6. Please do not submit works written entirely by AI. We are looking for original, community sourced pieces.7. Writings that are found to glorify violent behaviors will not be published.8. Writings that discuss death, self-injurious behaviors (physical or otherwise,) suicide, and criminal harm (assault or abuse), will be permitted at the discretion of the submissions team. Writers who are submitting these kinds of works must:
-Include trigger warnings for assault and abuse (please specify! Physical, emotional, mental, verbal, sexual, financial!), suicide, Self-injurious behaviors of any kind, with specification, and death.
-Display emotional maturity and responsibility in their discussion of these topics.
-Be mindful that anyone could read this zine.
EXAMPLE:
WARNINGS FOR THIS WORK INCLUDE ASSAULT (PHYSICAL) ABUSE (FINANCIAL) AND SELF HARM (PHYSICAL).

For Artists

1. Please be advised that works will be printed on a half page of standard letter paper, and should be able to be fully viewed on a 6”x8” space.
2. Works submitted for internal pages May be sexually explicit.
3. Please do not submit AI generative images. They will not be accepted.
4. If you would like to submit a cover piece, please include that with your submission. Cover pieces may be suggestive. Cover pieces may not be sexually graphic, and must include the following:
-The name of our publication (visible and legible) OR permission to put our publication name over the top 1.5-2 inches of your work.
-An 18+ warning OR permission and space for the publication to include that warning.
-Preference of black and white or color printing.
-Your signature!
